The Incredible Egg Washer Review

Okay, so, I have been using this bucket washer for a couple of months now.

I have 500 birds, 200 are laying or just starting to lay. 300 are babies.

I collect all the eggs in a basket, I'd say 30% or so are absolutely filthy. They are dirty from other cracked eggs, or poo or mud or whatever. Occasionally blood spots on the outside of the eggs.

My state requires that we wash with water, and soap, with the temp of the water at 120. Then we have to sanitize with a temp of 120 and a tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water.

My state also requires that you wash eggs in a seperate room with a shut door, no animals allowed, not your home kitchen. A laundry room would work for instance. My house doesn't have a laundry room, so we closed in the back porch and haul the water to the porch to wash.

On average right now (it's winter so laying is less then normal I have 80 eggs a day. They barely fit in the bucket. I have to put in slightly more then 3 gallons of hot water to cover the eggs. The water must be changed with every batch of eggs, or it's too cold. Too cold = fines and none compliance and all that. So it won't do.

The biggest problem I have is clean eggs go in, and come out clean.

Muddy eggs go in and come out mostly cleanish.

Eggs with egg on them (from a different egg) go in dirty and come out dirty.

Eggs with blood spots go in dirty and come out dirty.

On average I have 6 cracked eggs by the time I'm done washing.

In case you're wondering, I have a pretty odd mix of sizes at the moment, large, medium and small.

What I do is set up three buckets, first the eggs go in the egg washer. Then I have to individually scrub them, I usually scrub 12 at a time while the rest bubble. Then I dunk them in the sanitizer. It is a bit faster then just hand washing because they are presoaked. My state does not allow the soaking of eggs in a bucket without bubbles, go figure). HOWEVER. They pretty much all need hand washed and inspected. This is not like put them in the bucket, and then sanitize and carton. The bucket itself may or may not be worth it to you to purchase. You can make something similar if you wanted. It's just bubbles.

I have found there is a small egg washer for around 2,000 that I may upgrade to, however I would have to install a sink in the porch area, and that doesn't seem like it would be very simple.

Anyways, I know it's hard to tell if they are worth it, and now you know- it's not useless, it's just not as good as I would like. Presoaking the eggs saves me time, but cracking the eggs costs me profit. If this fully washed all the eggs I'd feel like it was worth the extra breakage. As it is, with how many eggs I am gonna be washing, I'm preparing to get something bigger.
