I work at a medium size church. Way too large for a dinky lawn spreader and too small for a truck mounted unit. We have different sized walkways as well as a parking lot that we have to salt (as quickly as possible) I couple years back I bought a salt dawg ice melt spreader and by the second year I was already repairing it. Three years later there was nothing to repair... So I sprang for the Myers Hot Shot Pro. With the lack of snow it has only gotten a few uses so here is what I know.
It came partially assembled and the rest went together pretty easily. The two piece handle needs to be adjusted right for the shut off assembly to work properly and lock in the closed position when you push it all the way forward. It's sturdy, well designed and has some features that are pure genius. Zerk fittings on the axels so you can keep the axle bearings greased all the time. Big hopper with a wide shutoff gate that allows for any product you want to be used. The rate control works really well even though I thought it was going to be junk at first. I was totally wrong. Genius in its simplicity! Same goes for the deflector plate assembly! When I was putting it together I thought it was going to work like crap and not meet my needs. Again... I was wrong It's a great one piece design that you either put on for a 2.5' spread or pull off (with the twist of 2 wing nuts) to get a full throw to either side of the spreader. Again, the simplicity of the design makes me believe it will last far longer. My old spreader called for banging and clanging to adjust the flaps after a year or two of use. The enclosed gearbox should do wonders to keep the gears from eating themselves like the salt dawg did. I'll try to update this as it gets more use.
