Home Plow by Meyer Snowplow - Power Angling, Model# 26000 Review

Bought this plow online a month or so ago (not from Amazon). It is a step above the Meyer auto-angling home plows in that you have full control of the plow blades orientation (up, down, left right). It took a while for me to decide whether it would fit my vehicle without much hassle (I have a 2002 Chevy Avalanche, Z71). This plow requires a 2x2 in box hitch. Meyer has a pdf file that lists the compatible hitches for various vehicles (manufactured by CURT, but with Meyer codes). I was suspicious about the hitch they had listed for my truck, so I called. I reached someone who simply looked at the same chart I had. She gave me a number for technical support, but it just got me back to this answering service. I then did research and got hold of another site that sold Curt hitches, and the knowledgeable online rep convinced me of the correct model. I bought it, and he was right (and the Meyer literature was wrong). Emails to Meyer were never answered.

Anyway, the hitch arrived, and I installed with minor fascia modifications. The plow arrived by freight in good shape (although the delivery truck didn't have a liftgate, which it should for an item of this enormous weight). It was relatively simple to slide the plow right into the hitch...all within the appropriate specifications for the plow (height off ground, etc..). The wiring instructions were OK, although I found it easier to attach the negative cable to a ground in the truck frame, and not to the battery.

One disappointment...whereas the other Meyer home plows have a wireless controller, the controller for the 26000 has a thick wire that you need to route into the cab somehow. The picture on the web site of this controller conveniently crops out the wire (the picture is on the same page as the aforementioned wireless controllers), and there was no indication that it wasn't wireless (and of course, it is impossible to contact Meyer to ask).

Something I really like about the plow is that it is relatively easy to get on and off the truck; the plow has 3 wheels that allow you to roll it around easily, and position the plow to hook up. The wheels can be inverted or removed for plowing. Just take the plow on and off as needed...a 2-5 minute procedure.

The plow works very well. I purchased the skid kit so as not to damage the cutting blade and my driveway (tar and stone) very much.

The instruction manual is glossy and pretty, but lacking in some details. For example, it isn't clear how to adjust the chain for proper plow height.

Overall, if you are a do-it-yourselfer, you should be able to have your plow unpacked and ready to go in a couple of hours. I'd say that if the unit proves to be durable, then I will be extremely happy with it.

UPDATE: Someone from Meyer saw the review, and managed to track me down and give me a call. The person was interested in hearing about my experience with respect to customer service, and how they might improve it. I recommended that the web site be much clearer about contact information (proper email address and phone info should be prominent). They also recognized the error in hitch info. They seemed intent on addressing the problems, of which they were previously unaware. Hopefully this will happen. I have not revisited the web site to check, but it bodes well that the company will try to please.

Landmann USA 3405GLA Two Drawer - Heat Saving "Smoky Moutain" Gas Smoker, 524-Square Inch, Black Review

I bought the Landmann 3405GLA gas smoker, it came very fast and was in good condition except for 2 very minor scratches that I did not even mention to the seller. It lets alot of smoke out around the doors so I bought a felt gasket for the big green egg and used it to seal around the door, which worked great. I had to bend 1 of the vent tabs up so I could close it more. Also, the original gas control knob/regulator worked terribly. It was either open full or at minimum, nothing in between. The thermometer was off by 30 degrees(all of the stock thermometers seem to be inaccurate). I sent an email to Landmann, their customer service people were very nice, polite and helpful. After trying a few things they sent me a new thermometer and control knob/regulator. The new one is a different model so I'm wondering if they've had problems and changed vendors. It seems to work better but have not tried to smoke anything with the new regulator yet. I may also try the trick of using a turkey frier control to automatically control the temperature. Also, I put lava rocks in the bottom and a slab of slate in back of the smoker to add some thermal mass for even cooking.

Advice to other buyers would be to go for the single door model, the drawers are not an advantage and let more smoke leak out. I'd give the manufacturer a 4 star rating for the way they treated me, but until I can see if the new parts make it easier to control the tempurature I gave only 3 stars. Will update after trying out the new parts.

Update: The new regulator/control knob works smoothly and has improved the tempature control. I increased the rating to 4 stars, but this is based on the price of $180. The unit does not compare to a $600-800 digital control models but for $180 I would give it 4 stars within this price point.

Matala Versiflow V-5600 MKH-750 5600GPH Pump Review

Recently moved into a home that has a large pond, and found the Aquascape pump for the pond in the Garage. After I installed it, it would randomly stop moving water -- it would try to cycle but stop due to (presumably) thermal overload. Unplugging and removing the pump, forcing it to spin a few times by hand, reinstalling it would make it work for a few more hours... This is not a small, easy to install pump. Since there are many waterlife (frogs, fish, plants) I did not want to just "oil it". So, after some research, discovered that this Matala pump is a direct replacement with some fairly good reviews across the net. I will tell you its quiet and it moves a lot of water -- by my calculations, it circulates the entirety of the pond water 2 minutes. Its been running since mid-August 2013 without interruption. I hope to get at least 5 years out of it.

Silky Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw ZUBAT 330 9-Feet 272-12 Review

I used my Silky Zubat telescoping 9-foot saw twice and the 'cup' or 'cap' on the end fell off. It appeared to have been glued on and I could not replace it because of the glob of glue - it no longer fit. Also, the wrapping at the end came loose.
I love the saw - it is the best pole saw I've ever used - except for this problem. I called the Silky Saw company and talked to Irene - they told me to buy some gorilla glue and fix it myself. Although I could not get the cap all the way back on, I resorted to screwing it on with 4 screws. I was disappointed that the company did not stand behind their product better. Disappointed in Washington.
